Weeroona Holiday Park is on Mitchells Island, Manning Point which is at the mouth of the Manning River, in the Manning Valley about 26km east of Taree and around 3.5 hours north of Sydney.
To say the park is huge is a bit of an understatement, it covers about 40 acres of bushland, and has the river on one side and the beach on the other – water just about everywhere and just a short walk away. In fact, there is also a huge lagoon on the park, and some of the cabins have been built nice and high to overlook this. As you can imagine the wildlife love the lagoon and the rushes and vegetation that surrounds it. Other cabins are beachfront for those of us who just love being close to the beach.
The powered and unpowered sites are at the back of the park, in the same general area as the lagoon and cabins. The park has its own jetty (across the road from the park entrance) for the boating enthusiasts, and fishing and messing about in boats is very popular here.
With a park this size you might not think that you want to do much bushwalking, so there is a small track in the park that gives you a chance to stretch you legs without going too far.
If you want a day trip then Taree, in the centre of the Manning Valley is about 20 minutes away and has the regional art gallery and plenty of shops. A little further on and you will find Wingham and Wingham Bush, which is a 10 acres sub tropical floodplain rainforest, where Moreton Bay Figs, Strangler Figs, and native animals dominate.
Manning Point itself is a little place, with a general store, café and a great bowls club, which is the social hub of the area and has a pretty good kitchen. The approach road to Manning Point has seen better days, but it is worth it.
Weeroona Holiday Park is just the place if you are looking for something right away from the hustle and bustle of a big area. It is high on my list of places to come back to.
