I have been to Coffs Harbour plenty of times, but Valla Beach was unknown to me, which is my lose. Originally known as Deep Creek the area was settled by Nathaniel Buchanan and his brother Andrew, which directly led to an area on the northern side of Valla beach still being known to some as the Letter Box Beach, because it literally had the brothers letter box. The postie rode his horse down the beach, dropped off the mail which the brothers collected by rowing down Deep Creek.
Valla Beach is about 30 minutes drive south of Coffs, and well worth finding. When you get there, check out the Valla Beach Tourist Park, it has something for everyone. There is a range of cabin accommodation to choose from, it all depends on your budget. There are powered and unpowered sites if you are towing or tenting.
This park has just about everything that you could want, a swimming pool, BBQs, mini mart for the things you have forgotten, a superb looking brasserie (licenced) and, if you are into conferences why not check out the conference and function centre. Imagine having a conference with all these facilities and in a brilliant setting too.
Once you have settled in it is time to have a look around. If you are into cars, then the Valla Beach Hot Rod Run is held annually, but you need to check with the park to get the actual dates. The Valla Beach markets are special, and only held every couple of months, but worth heading down for with entertainment, arts and crafts and local foods.
Graffiti is not popular amongst some, but the enlightened people at Nambucca Heads (about 8km south of Valla Beach) have a Vee Wall, and you are really encouraged to add your artwork to it. This outdoor gallery is about 500m long, with some amazing rock art work. What an inspired way to decorate a rock wall.
Winter may not be your favourite time to get away to the beach, but how about enjoying Christmas in July at Valla Beach Resort.
Whatever time you get there, you will find plenty to do, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, great walks to see the local animals. In fact, Valla Beach Resort is just the perfect spot to find out all about this superb, and hardly known, area.
