VALLA BEACH TOURIST PARK - UNIQUE & QUIET!
When we were heading to the NSW coast with our caravan for a break, friends suggested we seriously consider staying at Valla Beach Tourist Park mainly because it had a lot to offer as well as nearby surrounding areas. I must say we are glad we did because we were immensely pleased. On arrival we were greeted by Gail at reception who ensured we knew everything we needed to know about the park as well as making sure we were happy with our site. Later on I met up with Grant who runs this park and puts in a tireless effort making sure all guests are happy and that the park is always kept in top notch condition.
I asked Grant what he and other guests thought was the most unique feature of this caravan park, and his answer in my view is spot on! "Our most unique feature is the location of our park which is next to a retirement village, therefore it's always very quiet, plus we cater here for a wide range of visitors and of course we are a hop step and jump to the beach", he said. I have to fully agree with that as this place in our view is a hidden piece of paradise and it's also obviously a spot for holidays catering for all ages.
This unique holiday park is only about a 10-minute drive to Nambucca Heads and 25-minutes to Coffs Harbour. It's basically a half way point between Sydney and Brisbane, so if you want a well earned rest travelling either way this is the ideal place to drop into. It has much to offer in the way of an affordable range of accomadation. The park consists of 110 good size grass powered sites, 80 unpowered and camp grass sites, 21 serviced cabins, 11 unserviced cabins and 8 duplex units. But wait, there's more! The park also has a mini mart, entertainment, a conference and function centre, pool, BBQ facilities, laundry and a great amenities block as well as a brasserie and licensed bar, which means you can have happy hour at the bar or around the many friendly caravans. What more could anyone ask for I thought to myself!
On top of all of this it's only a hop, skip and jump over a bridge to the river mouth where many take the opportunity to throw in a fishing line with good catches, swim or go for a canoe or kayak venture or simply take a great walk over to one of the many beaches. You will also enjoy local wildlife, a variety of birds, possums and other surprises that await you.
A short drive away you will find a world heritage rain forest, waterfalls at Dorigo and a great market at Valla Beach every second month. At both Nambucca Heads and Coffs Harbour there are plenty of shops, medical facilities, supermarkets and other attractions. My wife and I took the opportunity to take part in lawn bowls at the Nambucca Lawn Bowls Club where we were made very welcome. This club also has great food.
Shortly before we left Valla Beach Tourist Park we had the great opportunity of meeting up with many guests of the Dragons Hot Rod Association who come to stay at this park every year. This was their 35th anniversary and they also put on a great show of their fascinating vehicles with a grand parade for local towns folk. Amongst these we found some rare vehicles which I photographed for you. Take for example the 1936 light brown Ford. This car featured in the television series "Leave It To Beaver" and you may remember this was Wally's first car in the series. It was purchased all the way from the USA. I had to admire one bloke who arrived with not only his classic vehicle on a trailer but also his "man cave" or "blokes shed" as we know them. Another was a 1937 Ford flat back sedan imported to Australia from New Zealand and is the only one in this country today. Then there was one my wife Anne just had to hop into with the driver; a 1927 T Roadster owned by Daryl from the Gold Coast. Our "Dazza" built it up himself as well as a 1928 A Model Roadster which his father-in-law helped with. All owners of these classic vehicles took great care of them and welcomed the opportunity to talk with others about them.
And so, it was a sad farewell from us at Valla Beach Tourist Park and its surrounds, and one day we hope we might get back there. I suggest you do and I can tell you there's lots of activities coming up this year, so check with them at www.vallabeachtoristpark.com.au or give them a call on (02) 65 69 5555.
