We have stayed at this lovely park quite a few times now, in summer and winter. Now, one of the advantages of being here in summer is that it really is cooler, particularly at night, when being on the Curdies River and only 500m from the Southern Ocean keeps you cooler. Winter in Victoria is always winter, but the park is just as beautiful as in summer, you just need to bring your bedsocks.

Over the years Dean and Sarah Hellessey have made some wonderful changes to the park, including an all weather BBQ and camp kitchen. This area means that the park now has facilities for winter as well as summer. As Sarah puts it “Although it is cold in winter, it really is lovely to be able to walk on the beach and get away from it all. Now that we have the enclosed camp kitchen, the park can make a winter visit much more enjoyable”

For the young and ever energetic there is now a jumping pillow to keep the kids entertained and drain some of their energy away. Add this to the playground, the beach about 150m away and a neighbourhood free tennis court and you have it all.

There are powered caravan sites, some on the river, unpowered sites plus there is a great range of very comfortable cabins, with the spa cabin (plus gas log fire) being very popular.

Great Ocean Road Tourist Park is beautifully placed as a base to explore the whole area. I have my ‘must visit’ places and will always head off to the Apostle Whey cheesery because I cannot get their superb cheeses at home. The park website is a wonderful way of seeing the 12 essential reasons for staying at this lovely park.
