Where on earth is that may well be your first question? The answer is simple, Fishery Falls is about 30 minutes south of Cairns, 10 minutes from Gordonvale and close (but not too close) to the Gillies and Palmerston Highway which takes you to the Atherton Tablelands.
We have stayed there two or three times now, and have watched this park change into one of the most beautiful parks you can imagine. The gardens are just superb, but then Fishery Falls is in the area where you can plant a toothpick and end up with a monster tree in 6 months! Di and Vernon (or Skin as he is better known) use their gardens as site borders and to create an overall feeling of peace and quiet in your own private spot.
If you fancy the idea of camping but do not have a tent, then you really need to try out the permanent tent, which happily answers to the name Kermit! Once you see Kermit you will understand why. We usually take our caravan but last time we stayed in one of the new cabins, and they are just delightful. Di has a great eye for a colour scheme and comfort. The cabin was lovely and I was sorry when our couple of days were up and we had to go home.
One of the things that I always do when we are there is visit the glass studio, really just a 3 minute stroll from the front of the park. The Studio 8 Glass Gallery is mind blowing. Judith Bohm-Parr is the artist and has a very distinctive style. So far I have a very small collection with some sushi plates, an exquisite leaf bowl and a couple of other little pieces, but I do have my eye on a salad bowl!
Fishery Falls is not the place to be if you want huge playgrounds, and to be in the middle of shops and hundreds of tourist activities. This is the spot to relax and enjoy some serious time out. There is a lovely salt water swimming pool and really well planned camp kitchen which seems to nestle into the gardens all around it.
As you can gather, I really enjoy being at Fishery Falls. I can get to Cairns when I want to, I can do any of the tourist things that I want when I want, but more importantly I can relax and enjoy a truly green experience with the gentle sound of the stream on one side of the park.
Once you have found Fishery Falls, it just seems to keep calling you back.
