This is a new name for a park that has been around for quite some time, but you would not know it. In late 2010 the park changed its name to Bendigo Park Lane (a sister park to Park Lane, Taralgon) and started on some upgrades, which have included the addition of new cabins in the same glorious colour range that are the distinctive style of Park Lane Parks.
Mind you, some of the pre-existing delights of old washboards and other antiques have stayed put, which just adds to the richness of the Park Land experience. The park is a great place for a family holiday, there are three swimming areas with a pool, solar heated spa and a kids wading pool, all under shade. The park is huge which means there is plenty of room for the playground and jumping pillow. If the kids have any energy left after this they can have a go on the pedal go-karts, volley ball court and basketball hoop!
There is an extensive range of cabins to choose from and don’t let winter put you off, I know it is cold but the cabins have absolutely everything you need to stay warm. We have had our van down there in winter too, and it is just lovely. I actually enjoy the odd touch of a real winter!
Bendigo has a well earned reputation as a great place to visit, and it is well justified. The best place to start your planning is to go to the tourism website at www.bendigotourism.com they have a heap of information on it which may help or may make you change you plans to have extra time in the area.
One of the best known attractions is Bendigo Pottery, and it really is a lovely place to visit, even if you do not buy anything. If you go to their website at www.bendigopottery.com.au you will get a full picture of the pottery and tour times.
You can do a gold mine tour, take a trip on the old tram through Bendigo and see (and hear) about the heritage of the town, visit the markets or indulge your tastebuds in some of the wonderful places to eat. I did not know that Bendigo is home to the oldest Chinese dragon (known as Loong) which was sent to Bendigo in the 1860’s in the early gold rush era. It seems this dragon is the star of the oldest event in Bendigo, the annual Easter Festival.
Gold mining began in the 1851 and finished in 1954, only to start again quite recently, but the price of gold does make is an attractive metal to mine!
There is so much to see and do, and Bendigo Park Lane is a wonderful place to stay, just make sure you have left enough time to get the right mix of relaxing and touring in this magical spot.
