Port Fairy, Victoria, is home to the Port Fairy Folk Festival each March, on the Shipwreck Coast, the Great Ocean Road route, plus it has a beautiful park called Belfast Cove Caravan Park.
The first things that strikes you when you come into the park is the huge garden that acts as a divider for the road system, rather than just a sign or post there is a mass of flowering shrubs and medium height trees.
The second thing that hits you is that the gardens are everywhere, the sites are bordered by hedges and gardens and the wind break is a huge Cyprus hedge. The cabins are surrounded by the gardens too, which are such a feature for the park.
There is a huge play area for children at the back of the park with a playground, tennis court and jumping pillow.
Belfast Cove is on the Shipwreck Coast, and that link has led to all of the cabins being named after famous shipwrecks. One of the most intriguing shipwrecks was a Portuguese caravel called “Mahogany” which was seen by marooned sealers on the beach between Port Fairy and Warrnambool in the 1830’s, although historians believe that it was actually wrecked in the 1500’s. The last reported sighting of the wreck was in 1890’s before the drifting dunes covered it completely.
Belfast Cove Caravan Park is a superb hideaway in a beautiful area.
