This park is very special, not only because of its location, but also because of the innovative way it has to be managed. Beachcomber Holiday Park is in the Eurobodalla National Park in the Eurobodalla Shire, which means that the impact of the park and guests on the environment is a major concern and directly affect what facilities are available on the park.
First thing is to get there, and you need some assistance with that. You will find clear instruction on the park website, including the information that when you turn at the shingle roof church on the corner do not use the GPS! That is good advice, sometimes we have ended up in some rather strange places following the GPS to the letter.
When you get to the park you will see some wonderful on-site cabins and plenty of sites. One of the things that is hard to come by is electricity, there is no mains power available, so no powered sites. But the park cabins and facilities are powered by renewable energy with solar hot water and photovoltaic cells with storage batteries. The development of the power plan was a major undertaking and received funding from the Australian Greenhouse Office. Sewerage also has to be managed within the confines of the park so a system called Wisconsin Mounds is used. As you can imagine this system was developed in Wisconsin USA.
The camp kitchen carries the environmental theme too, by having a wood fired pizza oven available for everyone to use. If you have not bought your pizza base or favourite toppings with you, just check out the supplies at the park office!
Beachcomber Holiday Park has an on-site playground for the kids, and you are encouraged to bring their bikes with them as there is plenty of room on the park to ride around. There is a playground, and with the beach close by you can enjoy swimming and surfing. Nearby Lake Tuross is an ideal spot for canoeing and kayaking.
Obviously being surrounded by national park means that bush walking trails are easy to get to and you will have a chance to see the range of animals in the park, including the threatened white footed dunnart. Bodella is the closest town, and if you can remember getting a milk shake from there many years ago, why not call into the Dairy Shed, which opened up in 2008, and try some cheese and a great milkshake.
Beachcomber Holiday Park is in a pristine area and waiting to share time with you in tune with the environment.
