The Port Stephens coastal area of NSW is an attractive place and has a lot to offer for travellers downunder. I had heard a lot of good things about the area so we decided to have a short stay on our way north recently and we were not disappointed. I had also heard about Bays Holiday Park at Anna Bay which is close to many of the attractions the area has to offer so we decided to check it out.
Our hosts Val & Andrew Hayward made us most welcome and we settled on to our powered site which we found very spacious with a nice lawn area. This caravan park is surrounded by acres of natural bushland with several koalas and is only a short distance from the areas beautiful beaches and lakes, shopping centres and a huge range of attractions for everyone.
Bays Holiday Park has a modern amenities block with guest laundry, disabled facilities, outdoor undercover BBQ and picnis areas, fully equipped camp kitchen, a huge recreation room with TV, kiosk, DVD library, children's playground including a toddlers sandpit as well as a dump point for caravans and motor homes. This park is also pet friendly.
It also has two bedroom, studio and budget cabins as well as a resort style pool and seperate solar heated spa with wheel chair access. If you are looking for something to entertain the kids there's a mini golf course, maxi chess, ten pin bowling and a large hookey board. There's also a large aviary with birds including a rabbit hutch which is a great little attraction for the kids as well.
The village of Anna Bay is the gateway to Stockton Beach sand dunes and Birubi Point if you want to take in some wonderful scenery and a bit of 4WD. The local dolphin population is in the area year round and regardless of the season fish are always on the bite. If you want something a little different again try a horse or camel ride along the beach areas.
But finally, back to Bays Holiday Park! Would we go back? We did so on our return trip home and enjoyed a unique little treat. Sitting in our caravan late one day there was a little knock at the door and when I opened it there were three delightful young children, all looking rather excited.
"We are putting on a special show tonight and we would like you to come and see us perform. It doesn't cost anything and it's just over near our van, but if you can't find it we will come and pick you up" they said. With a smile I couldn't resist I assured them we would come. Now these kids had it all planned down to a tee! Their parents while shopping in one of those $2 shops purchased them some packets of glow sticks which the kids used for their show. They danced with them and did some tricks and there was a huge round of applause at the end of it for the effort they had put in. And, as one of the mothers said, "those $2 packets of glow sticks have been a great investment and given them hours of fun as well". With permission of the parents I just had to photograph these delightful and excited children. It certainly added an extra touch of enjoyment at Anna Bay.
Bays Holiday Park also has vacancies left for Xmas holidays and we suggest you get in quickly, so give Val or Andrew a call on (02) 49 82 1438.
