Fraser Lodge, BIG4, Hervey Bay, Queensland
If you are looking for somewhere to get some serious R & R, then you should have a look at Fraser Lodge, in Hervey Bay, and member of the BIG4 family.
This park is really well laid out, with cabins, powered sites (some with en-suite) and tent sites. The couples retreat is absolutely perfect for two people who just want to enjoy time out and luxury – it is all there just waiting for you. If you are bringing the family there are cabins that sleep up to five, and still give your that luxury that you want.
I do like an en-suite powered site when we travel with our caravan and the ones on this park and lovely, and easy to get onto as well. If you don't want power or an en-suite there are tent sites just for you. The best way to see all the choices in sites and cabins is to have a look at the parks website, it really is excellent. If you are on dial up only, there is a button to help you with that too, they do think of everything here.
Fraser Lodge has some great things to keep you going during the day, including two swimming pools, one with a special area for toddlers. For the active amongst you, bring your tennis rackets and take advantage of the full size tennis court. If the kids cannot get by with peddling something, then the buggies are a great idea. There is also a games room for the odd day when the weather is not absolutely perfect!
Fraser Lodge is on the Fraser Coast, which is the jump off point for Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. You can book a one or two day tour for Fraser Island at the park, they have all the information on the huge range of tours you can take. If you just want to see whales, that can be arranged too – so long as it is between mid July and early November, whale time!
If you have your heart set on seeing the Great Barrier Reef, that can be arranged too with a tour to the southern most part of the reef. You can dive around, snorkel your way over this natural wonder of the modern world. If, on the other hand, you just want to take time out to do a bit of fishing, maybe just stroll around and enjoy time on the beach – this is the place.
Hervey Bay is quite spread out, with busy spots and really quiet ones, which means you get to make the choice about the pace of your day. There are some great cafes, bistros and restaurants around too for the days when you do not want to cook, or maybe there is a special celebration that needs to be enjoyed.
Hervey Bay and Fraser Lodge go together very well, that lovely mix of busy and quiet, which gives you the best of all worlds to enjoy your holiday.
