Adelaide has been very lucky, there are still caravan parks within easy distance of the CBD, and one is the beautiful Levi Park Caravan Park, a member of the BIG4 chain. Besides being so close to Adelaide the park is on the banks of the Torrens River. It really does have all the advantages of being in the city and in the country.
Once you know you are going there, you need to work out your accommodation. There are unpowered sites, powered sites, some with en-suites, and a range of sizes too. So, if you have a large rig, make sure you let the receptionist know when you are booking is so that you can get the right size site. If it has been a long day and putting your rig on site might wear out the temper, you can ask for it to be put on for you!'
If you want a cabin then there are some hard choices to make. Two of the cabin styles are on the banks of the Torrens, with balconies overlooking the river – how hard would that be! Then there are the Oval View Cabins and the Park Cabins. Each one is different, and gives you the chance to make up your mind about the facilities you want.
But, if there are just two of you and you are looking for a little something very different then Vale House should be high on your list. This fabulous house is heritage listed and was built in the first five years of European Settlement, what a find to have on a caravan park. Vale House has been lovingly restored (in 1999) and turned into four self contained luxury units for couples, one is wheelchair friendly. The history of this house is fascinating and makes a stay in Vale House just that bit more special.
Adelaide is only a short bus ride away, which luckily for everyone the bus stops at the front of the park. One of the first things you need to do is head off to Adelaide Zoo, which is privately owned and operated, to see the Giant Pandas who are on a long holiday in Adelaide. They are living in adjacent enclosures to get used to each other but will be introduced in the hope that baby giant pandas will appear!
If you want to see more of the superb area around Adelaide, then the Adelaide Hills should be on your itinerary. I like going to Hahndorf in the hills, they have some fabulous eateries there and a german sausage is often essential! How can you forget the Barossa Valley where some of our best wines come from. Then there are the beaches, the parks around Adelaide – the list just goes on for so long you will need to book for another week.
Levi Park Caravan Park is a wonderful base to explore a wonderful city and area.
