ORMEAU LIONS FAIR - WORTH A VISIT!
By: John Westbury - June 2011
Well worth a visit to is the 5th ORMEAU LIONS FAIR being held on Saturday & Sunday, 13th & 14th August. But where is Ormeau?? I hadn't heard of it and when I asked was told "it's half way between the Gold Coast and Brisbane or, close to Brisbane and halfway to paradise". I already like their idea of promoting Ormeau!
The fair, which attracts huge crowds will be held at the Brien Harris Oval in Peachey Road, Ormeau and admission is FREE! This is an ideal chance to partake of some great entertainment and at the same time support Queenslanders who have gone through some rather tough times recently, and also the Lions Club who contribute so much to many communities. It's also a great chance to stock up on local produce with cake stalls, local fruit and vegetables and a host of other goodies.
As well there is a side show alley, showbags, school choirs and bands, two stages of live entertainment, V8 Super Cars and a great fireworks display on the Saturday night.
If you are looking for a place to stay, the suggestion is the Jacobs Well Caravan Park, an independently operated three and a half star park only a few kilometres from Ormeau. I'm told the fishing is great and there's lots of crabs and prawns to be had and the weather is delightful in August. Unfortunately the park is not pet friendly.
