We have driven past Beefy Pies on the Bruce Highway, heading from Sunshine Coast to Brisbane many times, but have never stopped there before. So, we were heading down to Brisbane for a party – it was really good too - But we had left at that dreadful time when it is too early for lunch before you go and too late by the time you arrive, so we stopped on the way.
Because we had never been to Beefy Pies before, we decided to give it a go. Usually we stop at the bigger places on this stretch of the highway, but I am glad that we called in.
The pies were pretty good, and did have in them what they said they did. Peter choose to have a steak with mushy peas (not something that I have ever been able to eat, but he does love the muchy peas), and I went for the certified Angus. I have no idea why it has to be called certified but I was happy to eat it anyway. The pastry was good, and the plastic knives and forks (everything was throw away after you had eaten) cut through without having to saw away.
It seems hard to come away with change from $20 these days, and we did not make it here either. Two pies, sauce for me – can you eat a pie without sauce – and two coffees meant we forked over $20.10. The cafe is clean and tidy, the staff were very nice and friendly and we got good service. There were signs around giving special meal deals of a drink, pie and slice, but we did not want the slice. The deals are good value if you want to go that way.
I am glad that we were not towing the van, because I did not see any easy van parking, but there may well have been. As it was miserable weather we did not go wandering around the site to see what else there was.
The pie was good enough to stop there again. If you are going the other way on the highway, don't worry, you can stop at Beefy Pies at Aussie World. There are four Beefy Pie shops on the Sunshine Coast, just google their website and you can see where they are. Beefy Pies had beef in them!
